About the Gesar Association
The Gesar Association has been established to provide much-needed practical assistance for people in Tibet. It has been founded by Lama Yönten, a Tibetan Lama now living in France. The Association’s current projects are based in the remote village of Nyarong where Lama Yönten grew up. He has already completed the outer construction of a community centre for the elderly. The Association’s next project is to provide the village with a water supply. In future, the Gesar Assocation also hopes to provide help with education and medical aid.

Lama Yönten was born in Nyarong in the Kham region of Tibet in 1967. He became a monk at the age of 6 and studied at his local monastery, Kelsang monastery. At the age of 16 he went to Larong Gar, the monastery of Khenpo Jikme Phuntsok, where he studied and finished his shedra studies of buddhist philosophy. He is currently based at a Tibetan monastery in France.
